Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition 101
Each time you use this prompt you will be able to play a different character based on your responses. Here is a sample of the beginning of the adventure based on my responses.
Kurg's eagerness for action shines through! Your Half-Orc Paladin's desire to confront the threat head-on aligns well with your preference for combat-oriented problem-solving.
"I like your spirit, Kurg!" Lira says with a grin. "Let's make haste to those caves and put an end to this goblin menace."
As you and Lira make your way north, the well-trodden path gradually gives way to rougher terrain. After about an hour's journey, you spot the cave entrance nestled in a rocky hillside. Two goblin guards stand watch, currently engaged in what appears to be a heated argument.
Lira whispers to you, "We have the element of surprise. We could try to sneak up on them or charge in for a direct assault. What's your plan, Kurg?"
This is a good opportunity to explain some key mechanics:
Stealth: If you choose to sneak, you'll make a Dexterity (Stealth) check. Roll a d20 and add your Dexterity modifier (which is +0 for Kurg).
Initiative: If you decide to attack, we'll roll for initiative to determine the order of combat. Roll a d20 and add your Dexterity modifier.
Attack: To attack, roll a d20 and add your attack modifier (+5 for your longsword). If you meet or exceed the goblin's Armor Class, you hit.
What would you like to do: attempt to sneak up or charge in for a direct assault?
