The key to this trick is misdirection. I need to distract the audience's attention so that they don't see me palm the coin in my right hand. I can do this by making a big show of placing the coin in my left hand, or by asking the volunteer to blow on my left hand.
I can also use the power of suggestion to help me perform the trick. By telling the audience that I am going to pull a coin out of my ear, I am setting the expectation that this is going to happen. This makes it more likely that they will believe it when I actually do it.
